As the collective West escalates its financial and military warfare in both the Iran and Ukraine theaters, three high-level international meetings will occur in the first half of September which will take up global policy alternatives to this reigning insanity. On Aug. 31-Sept. 1, the 25th annual summit of the 10-member Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; on Sept. 1-4, the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) will meet in Vladivostok; and on Sept. 12-13 the 18th BRICS Summit will take place in New Delhi, India.
Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov on Aug. 28 reviewed President Putin’s extremely busy diplomatic schedule during this period with the press.
Aug. 31: Putin will hold nine bilateral meetings with each of the heads of state attending the SCO summit. Among the most awaited is an Aug. 31 Putin-Xi Jinping meeting, which will be “a very important meeting,” Ushakov reported, in which the two leaders will discuss the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline project, among other topics. Putin and Xi will also meet at the BRICS summit in New Delhi in mid-September and the APEC forum in China in November, Ushakov reported. (Putin has officially confirmed his attendance at the BRICS summit; official word is still awaited from the Chinese about President Xi.) Putin will also hold a discussion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Aug. 31.
Sept. 1: Putin will meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Ushakov told the press: “You can understand, yourselves, how relevant this meeting will be, given the turbulent situation in the Middle East and the situation around Iran.” Putin will also meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan “to discuss Ukraine and the situation in the Black Sea,” according to Ushakov. After the SCO summit, Putin will answer questions from representatives of the Russian media.
Sept. 2: Putin will be in Vladivostok for the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), which is titled “The Far East: Development for the Benefit of People.” He will meet with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, who will also participate in the EEF discussions.
Sept. 3: Putin will hold talks in the format of a business breakfast with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto (the main guest at the EEF). Putin will then speak at the forum’s plenary session, and will “deliver a major speech, as usual, focusing on a wide range of very important issues. His speech at the plenary session will be the central event,” Ushakov stated. Subianto, Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Myanmar Vice-President Nyo Saw, and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will also deliver speeches at the plenary session of the EEF.
