Daily Telegraph Joins the Chorus for Zelenskyy's Ouster

The Telegraph, published in London, is among the latest press to call for Ukrainian acting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to go. “Zelenskyy is no longer part of the solution to Ukraine—he is part of the problem,” says the opinion piece by Telegraph columnist Owen Matthews, published under the title “For Ukraine’s Sake, Zelenskyy Must Now Step Aside.”

The op-ed celebrates the protests that have broken out in Kiev and elsewhere, with young protesters opposing Zelenskyy’s signing into law a hastily drafted and passed bill that deals a blow to the independence of anti-corruption agencies.

“Zelenskyy’s term of office formally expired in May 2024,” Matthews notes, “and he remains in office under wartime emergency powers despite calls for him to create a government of national unity.”

With the majority of the country believing the nation’s leaders are personally profiting from the war, the situation is ripe for Zelenskyy to “step aside, for Ukraine’s sake.”
