Since the start of the war in Gaza and the worsening humanitarian crisis, the Dutch government has increasingly criticized Israel’s actions there and called for an immediate ceasefire. Along with Ireland and Spain, the Dutch urged the European Union to re-evaluate its ties with Israel, accusing Israel of violating the human rights provisions in the EU association agreement.
Already in February 2024, the The Hague Court of Appeals ordered the Dutch government to stop exporting F-35 fighter jet components to Israel, over concerns that the weapons might be used in ways that breach international humanitarian law.
