Summer heat, which climatic conspiracy theorists call an emergency but in reality is normal 30-40ºC, is continuing to cause stress on the renewable-loaded electrical grid in Europe. Italy is especially affected by blackouts in numerous cities, as air conditioners cause demand peaks.
Blackouts were reported on Friday morning, July 4, in many districts of Naples, for the third day in Moncalieri (Turin); Caserta and other places on July 3.
This occurs generally because the grid is old, and because the high renewable (intermittent) rate of the energy mix is not able to satisfy the overdemand in real time. Eventually, the balance is re-established by the conventional (gas-fired) power plants on standby.
(In the early afternoon of July 4, a major blackout occurred in the Czech Republic, whose origin is not yet known.)
