A retired Israeli military leader is speaking out against the extreme Netanyahu government.
The evacuation of an entire population from their homes, which are then destroyed, and their concentration in a confined area for “voluntary deportation”—these acts are “a series of war crimes under the law, not to mention our moral values,” said former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, in a post on X.
“Shooting and killing, not in a life-threatening situation—this is murder and a war crime,” he adds, in a message directed to the Chief of Staff, the head of the Mossad, and the acting head of the Shin Bet.
“Abandoning hostages to their fate is a moral crime, which is not included in the legal framework of war crimes, because no one could have imagined that a government would abandon its citizens and soldiers to cling to power,” he continues.
He ends with a call for a new government: “It is our duty as citizens to relieve you of this dilemma by replacing the messianic, draft-dodging, and corrupt government,” followed by the warning that government policy is forcing Israelis to “to carry out acts that will haunt them for the rest of their lives and stain our people and our state.”
