Netherlands Security Agency Lists Israel as National Threat

For the first time ever, the Dutch Security Agency (NCTV) has included Israel among states that pose a national threat, reported Turkish news agency Anadolu Ajansi on July 24. The document, titled “Assessment of Threats from State Actors,” points to efforts by Israel to spread disinformation intending to manipulate Dutch public opinion and influence political decision-making.

After one incident last year involving charges and counter-charges about Israeli soccer hooligans in Amsterdam, an Israeli ministry, according to the NCTV, circulated a document regarding the incident to Dutch journalists and politicians through unofficial channels, containing unusual and undesirable personal details about Dutch citizens.

The NCTV also flagged concerns over mounting threats from both Israel and the United States against the International Criminal Court in The Hague. These threats could potentially disrupt the court’s work, and the Netherlands, as host country for international legal institutions, has a “special responsibility” to safeguard its operations in the face of external pressures and threats.
