Today Trump Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met in New York City with Ukraine’s Presidential Top Aide Andriy Yermak and First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya. This occurred before the UN Security Council emergency session, held this afternoon at Ukraine’s request, over Russian air strikes in Ukraine the night of Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 27-28.
Neither Witkoff nor the White House reported directly on today’s meeting. From Yermak’s messaging, it is inferred that Kiev continues its stance of demanding Russia be blamed for obstructing talks. Yermak said that he briefed Witkoff on Russia’s attacks on Kiev. Yermak posted on X: “Ukraine welcomes all peace initiatives put forward by the United States.
