Known more for issuing deadlines, U.S. President Donald Trump described on Sept. 3 , in an interview with CBS News, how it is that his method for negotiations, including over the Ukraine conflict, of necessity requires patience. He said that his approach is to bring together the antagonists with little or no preconditions, or as CBS News described it, “to not write off any possibility before” you can get them talking. He said, “That approach demands patience, even when a quick resolution is sought.” Asked whether he must sometimes “wait things out,” he replied, “Well, you have to do that.” He said his position was “both realistic and optimistic.”
Otherwise, President Trump reported that he has been closely monitoring the situation: “I’ve been watching it, I’ve been seeing it, and I’ve been talking about it with President Putin and President Zelenskyy. Something is going to happen, but they are not ready yet. But something is going to happen. We are going to get it done. I think we’re going to get it all straightened out.”
