The lead editorial of Israeli daily Haaretz on both Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 has a sharp warning for any Israelis tempted by the plans of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the extremist crowd to sabotage the negotiated peace agreements:
“If Israel is stupid enough to get the hostages back and then find some lame excuse to resume fighting, thereby confirming its new image as a warmongering thug that serially violates agreements, the demonstrations that swept Europe over Israel’s response to a flotilla to Gaza will erupt with redoubled force—and it won’t be possible to stop them.”
The editorial, signed by regular columnist Carolina Landsmann, repeats: “If Israel resumes fighting once all the hostages are in its hands, it will be nothing less than diplomatic suicide. It won’t be possible to defend the country. Even Trump won’t be able to do so.”
