The Anglo-French led “Coalition of the Willing” met in London on Oct. 24 to plan out more support for the Kiev regime, though it appears that only British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ukrainian acting president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and a couple of others were there in person, while some 20 other leaders participated by video.
Starmer announced a series of steps that he promised Zelenskyy the U.K. is taking to supposedly increase the pressure on Putin to come to the negotiating table, the first of which is expanding the targeting of Russia’s oil trade. “Together with further sanctions from the EU we are choking off funding to Russia’s war machine,” he said. “I am urging others to take these steps too to go further to reduce their dependencies and incentivize third countries to stop buying these tainted resources.”
Secondly, “we are determined to push on with the progress on Russia’s sovereign assets and unlock billions to help finance Ukraine’s defence.”
Thirdly, the U.K. is sending more weapons for air defense, including the supply of 5,000 lightweight-multirole missiles. Fourth is the continued provision of long-range weapons, and finally, “we are also continuing our work on security guarantees including the Multinational Force Ukraine to uphold a just and lasting peace, when that day finally comes.”
Zelenskyy said Trump’s decision this week to impose oil sanctions was “a big step,” and said “we have to apply pressure not only to Rosneft and Lukoil, but to all Russian oil companies.”
“Besides, we are carrying out our own campaign of pressure with drones and missiles specifically targeting the Russian oil sector,” he said, reported AP.
Also participating NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who praised Trump’s new oil sanctions, which, he claimed, “show once again that President Trump is absolutely committed to end this war and bring a lasting peace to Ukraine.”
Rutte then followed with a fairytale. “In Ukraine, Putin is gaining little new ground on the battlefield—and where there are marginal gains they are coming at a huge price. Hundreds of thousands of Russians are dying for Putin’s deluded aggression. Ukraine continues defending itself bravely and our support to them is working,” he claimed. “The truth is that Putin is running out of money, troops and ideas. President Trump said it very well—they should stop where they are now. And now is the right time to increase the pressure on Russia. So we can finally get a fair and a just peace for Ukraine.”
