Rosatom at African Energy Week in Cape Town Promotes Floating Reactors

Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation has been actively pursuing the African market for its nuclear technologies, including large nuclear power plants, small modular reactors (SMRs), and floating power units (FPUs). Rosatom officials specifically highlighted floating nuclear power plants (FNPPs) during African Energy Week in Cape Town, South Africa, over Sept. 29-Oct. 3.

Rosatom emphasizes several benefits of floating reactors for coastal nations like South Africa, including mobility, flexibility, scalability, and the use of factory-built components to lower costs and accelerate deployment.
