Rubio Backs Israel on Gaza Ceasefire, Meets Netanyahu in Jerusalem

During a visit to Jerusalem, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio voiced support for Israel’s handling of the Gaza ceasefire and emphasized that the success of the agreement depends entirely on Hamas’s compliance. Speaking at the U.S.-Israel ceasefire coordination center, Rubio said: “We’re all committed to making this plan work. There is no plan B. This is the best and only plan,” the Times of Israel reports.

Pressed on whether Israel could resume fighting if Hamas rearms, Rubio replied, “If Hamas refuses to demilitarize, it’ll be a violation of the agreement, and that’ll have to be enforced.” He described Gaza’s demilitarization as “a long-term project” but said the goal was to create conditions where “people in Gaza don’t have to be terrorized by Hamas.” (Is Rubio unaware that Israel has been terrorizing the people of Gaza?)
