U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio continues to push policies that are doing immense damage to the Trump administration—in Venezuela, in Ukraine, and especially in the Middle East/Southwest Asia. He declared on Oct. 24 that UNRWA—the UN Relief and Works Agency For Palestine Refugees In the Near East–can have no future role in Gaza. He repeated what Middle East Eye characterized as “the widely discredited Israeli claims” that UNRWA is a “subsidiary of Hamas,” during remarks to reporters at the Civil-Military Coordination Center, before he left Israel. “UNRWA is not going to play any role in” providing aid, he said.
MEE noted that Rubio’s comments come just days after the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel’s claim that UNRWA was “substantially” comprised of Hamas supporters was without foundation.
