Suspicious Explosion/Fire Hit Hungary's Oil Refinery, Which Dmitriev Links to Budapest Summit

Two explosions occurred on Oct. 20 at oil refineries in Hungary and Romania. Since both of them process Russian oil, Ukraine’s HUR is suspected. Given that Hungary is organizing the Budapest summit of the U.S. and Russian Presidents Trump and Putin, Ukraine’s “Coalition of the Willing” allies are suspected. Both countries have largely been exempt from such attacks up to now. Investigations were promised by Hungary’s oil company and by the Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Hungary’s National Directorate General for Disaster Management stated that the explosion and fire explosion occurred at one of the raw material processing plants at MOL’s oil refinery in Százhalombatta, near Budapest. Firemen worked throughout the night and contained the fire. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán posted on his Facebook page that he had consulted with MOL executives and the Minister of the Interior yesterday morning, Oct. 21. He stated: “Hungary’s fuel supply is secure. We will investigate the circumstances of the fire at the Százhalombatta oil refinery as thoroughly as possible.”

Russia’s Special Envoy for Negotiations with the U.S. over Ukraine Kirill Dmitriev posted on X: “Was Hungary attacked for participating in the peace summit? At the Danube Refinery—the largest in Hungary, a fire broke out at a Russian oil refining plant. An investigation is underway.”
