The Lead

Reason in a Time of Crisis

by Megan Dobrodt (EIRNS) — Nov. 19, 2025

“If it would come to any kind of operation, it’s unthinkable,” Helga Zepp-LaRouche observed of the buildup toward war in the Caribbean. “There is a very large Navy contingent there; the U.S.S Gerald Ford, the largest U.S. aircraft carrier, and a whole armada of other warships with it. There are 15,000 troops in this deployment.… It cannot have a good outcome.”

The completely disastrous possibility that the U.S. will take military action against Venezuela, and then, perhaps, other nations in what Pete Hegseth brutishly termed “America’s neighborhood” of the Western Hemisphere, can only result in Trump, the self-proclaimed “President of Peace,” being dragged into yet another forever war, but on a much larger scale.

On Nov. 20, at 11:00 am ET, Executive Intelligence Review will hold an emergency roundtable discussion, “President Trump: Don’t Do It! An Alternative American Policy for the Caribbean.” The experts assembled there will discuss not only the implications for Venezuela and the Caribbean, but also the broader global implications of this crisis. “Given the fact that Rubio and others are already trying to get a right-wing alliance throughout the continent, it forebodes terrible developments,” Zepp-LaRouche said.

The question on the mind of many around the world is: Will Trump continue to carry out the self-destruction of his own administration, and the U.S. along with it? To go along with policies which threaten to derail a U.S.-Russia rapprochement? Will he make a fatal decision around Venezuela?

Or will he, in the case of the Ukraine conflict, return to the principles that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed upon in their August meeting in Alaska?

Reports of renewed contacts between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian Kremlin Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev to prepare a draft plan to end the Ukraine conflict are circulating widely. The Russians, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, have made clear that they are and have been operating on the basis of principles Trump and Putin agreed to in their Alaska meeting, and Dmitriev said that he and Witkoff were working on a proposal “to address the Ukraine conflict, but also how to restore U.S.-Russia ties [and] address Russia’s security concerns.” He added, “It’s actually a much broader framework, basically saying, ‘How do we really bring, finally, lasting security to Europe, not just Ukraine?’”

This return to the Alaska framework, and the potential for cooperation on development, is the way out of the war trap. Russia-U.S. cooperation on building the Bering Strait tunnel, as championed by EIR and the Schiller Institute for decades, and recently reintroduced into discussion by Dmitriev, would be the most efficient way to jettison the policies of confrontation coming from the neocon Marco Rubio crowd currently infesting the Trump administration.

Similar solutions exist for all parts of the world. “The reality is, if the United States would decide to cooperate with China on infrastructure projects,” Helga Zepp-LaRouche declared, “like the Bi-Oceanic Railway, the Chancay deep sea port in Peru, which could open the entire continent for further infrastructure development—this is something which has been promoted since the time of Alexander von Humboldt in the 19th century, and it is an urgent question to be resolved today—it could resolve all the problems.”

To do this, however, requires taking on the fast-approaching blowout of the financial system. The U.S. Federal Reserve is preparing for shocks, activating various mechanisms of money-pumping to keep liquidity in the system as the crash of the AI bubble looms. This lunatic behavior will not save the system; as Lyndon LaRouche said in July 2007, “There is no possibility of a non-collapse. None!” The only solution is what is laid out in LaRouche’s 2014 writing, “The Four New Laws To Save the U.S.A. Now!” the first and urgent measure of which is a reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall banking separation and a bankruptcy reorganization.

Take the first step and tune in to the EIR roundtable; help to make sure that reason prevails.
