Today, Nov. 18, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada was shut down, as a dozen lawmakers from Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity opposition party stood with Poroshenko, blocking any other speakers from addressing the assembly. He demanded the dismissal of the entire Ukrainian government. The group held up placards protesting corruption.
Ukraine’s acting president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, running in 2019 on a peace and anti-corruption campaign, had defeated Poroshenko, the former President.
According to his European Solidarity site, he stopped the proceedings as the Rada was going to rubber-stamp the dismissal of two of Zelenskyy’s ministers who had been caught up in the corruption scandal. He stated:
