Under the headline, “US physicist: It can only be nuclear weapons—or ineffective,” the German blog Tichy’s Einblick reports:
“On October 9 this year, the Eurasia Society and the International Schiller Institute invited US physicist Theodore Postol, former professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and advisor to the Pentagon, to Berlin, as reported by Nachdenkseiten. Postol has been known for years for his objections to the effectiveness of US missile defense. He compares the current plan to upgrade missile technology in Central Europe, and Germany in particular, with the NATO exercise “Able Archer,” which in November 1983 fueled suspicions in the Soviet Union that NATO was planning a real nuclear strike against the Warsaw Pact. The historical comparison seems ancient history. But at the same time, it seems significant that an attentive observer like Postol is reminded of the Cold War in view of the new bloc formation in Europe.”
