The Washington Post report of Nov. 28, alleging that Hegseth had ordered a double tap strike to kill survivors of the Sept. 2 boat strike, and Hegseth’s angry response to it, has sparked bipartisan concern in both the House and the Senate. The leaders of both armed services committees issued statements on Nov. 29 promising investigations of the allegations.
“This committee is committed to providing rigorous oversight of the Department of Defense’s military operations in the Caribbean,” House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL) and Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) said in a joint statement. “We take seriously the reports of follow-on strikes on boats alleged to be ferrying narcotics in the SOUTHCOM region and are taking bipartisan action to gather a full accounting of the operation in question.”
