The scheduled Dec. 4-5 state visit to India by Russian President Vladimir Putin represents “an opportunity to discuss the entire extensive scope of Russia-India special and privileged strategic partnership in politics, trade and economy, science and technology, as well as cultural and humanitarian affairs, in addition to addressing current international and regional issues,” reported the Russian President’s website.
Other press agencies are reporting that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to request that Russia provide an additional five squadrons of the S-400 Triumf air defense systems and wants to procure a number of missiles to replenish India’s stocks, noted the Times of India.
The S-400 Triumf is a Russian mobile, long-range, surface-to-air missile system capable of tracking and destroying a wide range of aerial threats, including aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones, at a maximum range of up to 400 km. Considered one of the world’s most advanced air defense systems, it consists of radars, command and control systems, and multiple types of missiles.
