Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov pretty much doused the last smoldering embers of the media brushfire of the past week, which was designed to sabotage U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to negotiate a peaceful solution to the Ukraine war. Ushakov told TV reporter Pavel Zarubin on Nov. 26 that the media leaks about supposed conversations he had had with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff were fake news, and instead confirmed that he will meet with Witkoff in Moscow this coming week.
According to TASS, Ushakov said that “Russia and the U.S. have not yet engaged in discussions of the Ukraine peace plan, but the process will begin during Witkoff’s visit to Moscow; the U.S. envoy won’t be travelling to Russia alone.” He added that President Vladimir Putin plans to receive the U.S. envoy: “If Witkoff comes, the Russian president will definitely receive him.”
