London The Economist: War Is Frequently Better Than Peace

A Jan. 25 article in London’s The Economist took issue with Benjamin Franklin’s views war and peace, in order to attack U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to work with Russia to find a negotiated settlement to the Ukraine war. The article began: “Benjamin Franklin once wrote to a friend: ‘In my Opinion there never was a good war, or a bad peace.’ For all his wisdom, the founding father of American diplomacy was wrong.”

The mouthpiece of the British financial oligarchy then harrumphed: “Though the cruelties of war are never ‘good,’ the use of force can be just,” adding that “bad peace deals do exist,” such as the one Trump is trying to negotiate with Russia.
