German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s trip to Moscow, claiming that intensified Russian air strikes in Ukraine followed Orban’s visit in July last year, immediately after he took office as European Council President. “I hope that Russia’s reaction will not be the same this time,” said Merz. “But he is traveling without a European mandate and without consulting us.”
