Report on Music Panels at the Schiller Institute Paris Conference

Both the Saturday, Nov. 8 conference and Sunday, Nov. 9 cadre school concluded with beautiful musical events in the evenings.

Nov. 8 featured two great sopranos, Feride Gillesberg from Copenhagen, who is an important organizer of youth and musicians; and Leena Malkki, an opera singer from Sweden, who is a longtime associate and member of the Schiller Institute. They presented songs and arias from Albania, Germany, Russia and France, including an important aria from Tchaikovsky’s opera Joan of Arc. The accompanist was Georges Beriachvili, an international pianist from Paris. Johanna Clerc gave a short introduction in which she emphasized the importance of music and especially the choruses for our work, including the scientific tuning.

The Nov. 9 concert was a dialogue of cultures, with songs and arias from throughout the world, sung by members from Europe and the U.S. They were accompanied by Jean, a pianist from Paris, an old friend who stepped in on short notice, doing a great job.
