Rubio Is the Driving Force in Washington Behind the Venezuela Madness

An extensive article in Politico on Nov. 22 reports that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is the driving force behind the Trump administration’s disastrous Venezuela war policy. The article, headlined “Rubio’s Political Future Could Hinge on Venezuela Campaign,” also argues that if that policy fails, Rubio’s ambition to become President could be in trouble. It notes that White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller is one of Rubio’s key allies in the Venezuelan caper.

The article reports: “Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also serves as acting national security adviser, is a main architect of the administration’s Venezuela strategy…. But if the effort goes sideways, it could wreck Rubio’s presidential prospects instead—damaging his standing with key voters, especially in his home state of Florida.… For Rubio, whom Trump has named as a possible 2028 successor alongside Vice President J.D. Vance, the operation carries special political risks.”
