An official U.S. war game, run in 2019, of an overthrow of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, concluded that whether the overthrow be accomplished by military coup, popular uprising, or U.S. military action, it would produce “chaos for a sustained period of time with no possibility of ending it.” The 2019 exercise involved “officials from across the U.S. government, including ones from the Pentagon and State Department.” So reported the New York Times on Nov. 20.
The summary of the outcome of the exercise cited is taken from the unclassified report on the 2019 war game written for Pentagon officials at the time by national security consultant and former Washington Post reporter Douglas Farah, the Times reported. Farah had participated in the exercise while he was a fellow at the National Defense University.
Farah is no fan of Maduro, and EIR can vouch for his long track record as a “journalist” used to promote U.S. policies coming from imperialist corners of the U.S. intelligence agencies. Nonetheless, the New York Times reports that Farah warned in an interview that “you can’t have an immediate seismic shift” in the country’s government without consequences; “you would have no command and control over the military and no police force. You’d have looting and chaos. Any U.S. military deployment meant to stabilize the country would probably require tens of thousands of troops.”
