Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Dec. 12 that, over the last week, Russia had liberated eight villages and towns, including the militarily important town of Seversk in the Donetsk People’s Republic. In the Kharkov Region, Liman was one of the towns liberated. The MOD also announced that military-industrial and energy sites were hit this week, including with the use of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.

Yesterday, President Vladimir Putin received reports from the Chief of the General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov and local commanders on the progress of the special military operation. Gerasimov gave a summary of the progress all along the front and concluded: “The assigned tasks for the liberation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, are being executed in accordance with the approved plan.”

To this, Putin commented: “I note positive momentum across all sectors. The liberation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, is proceeding steadily and in a coordinated manner, in line with your plans and those of the General Staff. The strategic initiative remains firmly with the Russian Armed Forces.”

The Commander of the South Group of Forces Sergey Medvedev reported that Russian forces have completed the liberation of Seversk, “thereby creating conditions for further offensive towards Slavyansk.”
