President Donald Trump went to eastern Pennsylvania on Dec. 9, for an evening rally at the Mt. Airy Casino in the Poconos, billed as addressing his successes on the economy. This is one of a flurry of statements and moves on this track in recent days. The rally banner proclaimed: “Lower Prices, Bigger Paychecks.”

On Dec. 8 Trump announced that $12 billion in federal aid will go to farmers by Feb. 28, 2026, to tide them over their current impossible income crisis. Of that, $11 billion is to go to crop farmers—soybeans, corn, wheat, and others. Trump also announced on Dec. 8 the formation of a new task force to “investigate” why certain food prices are high, especially beef.
