On Jan. 8, the day after the fatal shooting of ICE protester Renee Good in Minnesota, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem held a press conference at Ground Zero in New York City, apparently to denounce New York for being a Sanctuary City, and to express that “if you lay a finger on one of our officers … you will feel the full extent of the law.”
The placard on the podium, however, was more extreme: “One of Ours; All of Yours,” it read, apparently an endorsement of collective punishment. Trump-hating rock guitarist Tom Morello responded on Instagram, writing: “Today the Trump admin quoted the Nazi mass murder slogan, ‘One of ours, all of yours.’ Coined when an SS officer was killed and the Nazis murdered every male resident of the village in response. If there are any MAGA left after THIS, you have made an irrevocable choice.”
Whether the Nazis actually stated that at the time of the 1942 Lidice massacre is difficult to ascertain, but stated or not, their response to the killing of one SS officer, Reinhard Heydrich, was to kill all males over 14, send the women and children to concentration camps, and level the village.
