Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reported on Jan. 6 that he had spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump by phone on Jan. 5. On the agenda were trade and defense industry cooperation between their two countries, and “sensitive issues,” such as Gaza and Venezuela, the Office of the Presidency reported.
Erdogan himself reported, in remarks to the press after a cabinet meeting, that he had conveyed his concerns about the U.S. capture of the Venezuelan head of state in a military operation. “Wherever it occurs, we do not approve of any action that violates political legitimacy and international law,” he stated.
