Farmers Hit European Parliament with Mass Demo against EU-Mercosur

Thousands of farmers from across Europe demonstrated today in Strasbourg during the opening week of 2026 of the European Parliament meeting, to demand a stop to the EU-Mercosur deal, and a stop to other EU actions undercutting what remains of independent family farming.

The main sponsors, Fédération Nationale des Syndicats d’Exploitants Agricoles, FNSEA, and its youth branch Jeune Agriculteurs (JA) are joined by other national farm organizations. Copa Cogeca, which represents other EU member farm organizations, supports the protest. The plan is to continue protesting as MEPs take a vote on the new mega-trade pact which could be tomorrow. There may also be a demo in Nantes, outside the Duke of Brittany’s castle.
