Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in her Jan. 10 New Year’s press conference, competed with French President Emmanuel Macron in being labile, saying, “I believe the time has come for Europe to talk to Russia.” However, Meloni pushed for a European Union initiative and not of single nations. Meloni said that she has “always been in favor of appointing a European special envoy on the Ukrainian issue, that is, someone who would allow us to synthesize our positions, but speak with one voice.”
