Rosatom Chief Notes New Year's Advances in Nuclear Medicine and Fusion Technologies

Both Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev and the Kurchatov Institute’s Mikhail Kovalchuk were interviewed on Jan. 3, 2026 on the progress of Russia’s nuclear technology. In an interview with Rossiya-24 Likhachev said that Rosatom was working on nuclear programs for “the day after tomorrow. “We’ve improved our cooperation with a number of traditional partners, primarily the Kurchatov Institute. A number of new programs have been developed,” he told Rossiya-24 TV. “I’d especially like to highlight programs in nuclear medicine and fusion.” While giving no specifics on the matter, he added, “This is no longer tomorrow, but the day after tomorrow in nuclear energy.”
