Vance and Rubio Meet with Foreign Ministers of Denmark and Greenland

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and his Greenlandic counterpart Vivian Motzfeldt met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State/National Security Advisor Marco Rubio at the White House on Jan. 14, where Vance and Rubio likely jacked up the pressure on the Danes to cede Greenland to the U.S. Lokke Rasmussen, in remarks to reporters afterwards, characterized the meeting as “frank, but also constructive.”

“Our aim was to find a common understanding,” he said, reported the New York Times. The United States and Denmark still have a “fundamental disagreement,” he said, but they will “agree to disagree.” A high-level working group will form to discuss Greenland’s security, among other issues. He said the group could meet in a matter of weeks.
