British Ministry of Justice Orders Deletion of Court Reporting Archive

The Times of London reported on Feb. 8 that Courtsdesk, a data analysis company that allows the media to monitor court records since 2021, has been ordered by the government to delete its archive.

Courtsdesk “was approved by the lord chancellor in 2021 to explore how a ‘national digital news feed of listings and registers can improve coverage of the courts by the news media’ by opening up magistrate court records.”

The database was needed, because, prior to its existence, journalists were given no advance notice of millions of criminal hearings, and official court listings were accurate only 4.2% of the time.

“Basil the Great” with 276,000 followers on X put it this way: “LABOUR ORDERS MAJOR GROOMING GANG COVERUP!! The culture of secrecy within our institutions facilitated the gangs and covered up the crimes. Now Labour have ordered the final step—DESTROY THE RECORDS. HUGE DELETION OF COURT INFORMATION UNDERWAY.”
