China Responds to U.S. Effort To Seek ‘Nuclear Supremacy’

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian denounced the speech of U.S. Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Thomas G. DiNanno to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on Feb. 6, in which he demanded that China join multilateral arms-control talks and accused it of having conducted a secret nuclear test.

“The U.S. keeps distorting and vilifying China’s nuclear policy,” he told reporters at the Foreign Ministry on Feb. 11. “This is essentially part of the U.S.’s political manipulation to seek nuclear supremacy and shirk its nuclear disarmament responsibility. China firmly rejects this.”
