Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery Hits Full Capacity, Breaking World Record

As of Feb. 11, the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria has reached its full design capacity of 650,000 barrels of petroleum motor fuel per day, said to be a “world record” capacity for a refinery of its type. The increase in output came after optimization of two subunits in the refining process. The refinery has been operational since January 2024.

At full capacity, the refinery was designed to produce twice Nigeria’s daily need for fuel, meaning that it had room for both domestic growth and capacity for export. In October 2025, owner Aliko Dangote announced the intention to essentially double the current output to 1.4 million barrels per day, making it capable of supplying the entire West African region with refined fuel.
