Azerbaijani officials claimed on March 5 that drones from the direction of Iran struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, causing them to close its border crossings with Iran. Now, according to reports, the border was reopened on March 9, after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian explained to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that Iran was not involved.
The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Esmail Baghaei claimed that “no offensives were initiated from Iranian territory” against Azerbaijan, or also against Türkiye and Cyprus. He added that “we have warned repeatedly that the enemy may stage certain attacks to drive a wedge between us and other countries.”
