Russia Maintaining Its Strategic Partnership with Tehran

Moscow’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrey Kelin reaffirmed Russia’s strategic partnership with Iran in a four-minute interview with CNBC on March 13, denouncing the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran and defending Iran’s right to enrich uranium. He also referenced the recent phone call between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, saying Putin had offered his assistance in resolving the conflict.

Of the strategic partnership, Kelin said: “We are not allied in military terms, but we have a strategic partnership. And we had a lot of communication in different fields. As I understand, we have daily contacts right now with Iran.”

TASS, in its coverage of the interview, reports that Putin has recently held two phone calls with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, on March 6 and March 10. And Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has spoken with his Iranian counterpart, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
