RT reports that “large crowds have descended upon central London for an anti-immigration rally dubbed ‘Unite the Kingdom,’” led by anti-migration radical Tommy Robinson. Videos and photographs circulating on social media on May 16 showed demonstrators with Union Jack flags, crosses, and other Christian symbols marching through the streets of the British capital. Over 50,000 were expected to attend.
At the same time, a pro-Palestinian march marking Nakba Day, was taking place in London. Some 4,000 officers were deployed to maintain public order in the British capital, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
All of this is taking place when the government is in disintegration after the ruling Labour Party was crushed in local elections, but Prime Minister Keir Starmer is clinging to power despite calls from his party’s MPs demanding he step down, and four members of his cabinet have resigned. Starmer responded by announcing that several foreign activists and commentators who had planned to attend the anti-immigration rally had been denied entry to Britain. According to Downing Street, eleven people were blocked because their presence was considered “not conducive to the public good.”
