China issued on June 17 a White Paper on Global Governance, perhaps in order to begin a sane discussion in the aftermath of the foreseeable ending of the Iran conflict, with regard to overcoming the turbulence and conflict which has characterized the world over the most recent period.
The White Paper outlines all the recent initiatives China has taken in its new role as a major power in trying to create some semblance of balance and stability in the world situation, including the four major initiatives launched by President Xi Jinping, and the emergence of new global and regional organizations like the BRICS and the SCO, which now are playing a greater role on the global scale as well. The document puts a stress on the preservation and the enhancement of the postwar security system, based on the United Nations and the concept of the sovereignty of nations. The failure of that system to resolve some of today’s crises calls for an enhancement and strengthening of that system.
