On This 250th Anniversary, Bury Colonialism Once and for All

“We are closer to WWIII than at any time before,” Helga Zepp-LaRouche commented in her July 1 webcast as she laid out current strategic picture now gripping the world. Outlining the two primary theaters of war—Iran and broader Southwest Asia, and Russia-Ukraine—Zepp-LaRouche warned that either or both could blow up at any moment: “The whole situation is dramatically worse: the strikes between the U.S. and Iran resumed; the talks in Doha are really not going anywhere. So, I think this situation looks really very, very sinister. And the situation in Ukraine—I don’t know which one is worse.”
Indeed, while Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Baghaei confirmed on Tuesday that Tehran and Washington are communicating via political channels, the Trump administration’s backing of the Greater Israel policy in Lebanon is a non-starter. On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz visited the occupied area of Lebanon, with Netanyahu vowing that “As long as Hezbollah, armed, is here, threatening us, we will stay here.” A leaked security annex to the Israel-Lebanon framework deal reportedly gives the Lebanese army the job of clearing out Hezbollah, a deeply sensitive task in Lebanon, where internal tensions are thick and many worry that such an undertaking could lead to civil war.
Meanwhile, the delusional military build up in Europe against Russia continues, with the outgoing Keir Starmer gleefully presenting the new, £300 billion Defense Investment Plan as a jobs program. Additionally, NATO has directly appealed to private sector companies to develop technologies for long-range strikes against airfields deep within Russia, a military crowdsourcing campaign and contest, issued by NATO’s Supreme Allied Command Transformation.
Russia is not taking the posture of the West, and its blatant military aggression via Ukraine, lightly. “The US, the UK, and Europe are striving for total global dominance,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said last week, “so that no one can prevent them from continuing to extract resources around the world and live at the expense of others.”
This blatant colonial reflex is, however, a losing game. “I do not think that the investment in the war economy will compensate for the loss of real assets in the real economy,” Zepp-LaRouche warned. “It could very well be that we are heading towards a complete collapse into a depression, especially if you think that the continuous blocking of the Strait of Hormuz is adding to that basically at an exponential rate; because the effects of the lack of energy coming through the Strait of Hormuz is only felt several months later, so the full impact will only hit starting probably in August.” Underscoring the point, the UN Trade and Development agency released a report on June 30 warning that even as oil traffic resumes through the Strait of Hormuz, the normalization of trade will take longer to recover, and resulting high food costs can be expected to contribute to acute malnutrition in vulnerable countries.
“There are so many incalculable aspects in this whole thing,” Zepp-LaRouche continued, “that this whole thing may end in a complete tragedy of civilization, where you have a collapse of the West, a collapse of the financial system, a deep depression, and then some uncontrolled war scenarios which could flare up in many parts of the world. So, we are looking at a potential collapse of civilization triggered by five, six, seven different points.
“I think the only answer to that is people have to wake up and say, ‘Stop!’ as the Pope had basically said in one of his speeches, ‘Stop, repent, return, turn around!’ And I think that is the war cry everybody should have.”
The 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence is just days away; let us—all of us around the world—take this momentous occasion to renew our commitment to those sacred, universal principles enshrined in the formation of the US republic.
