U.S. Cuba Blockade Produces New National Blackout; UNGA to Discuss U.S. 'Genocide'

On Tuesday, June 7, the UN General Assembly will debate “the necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” which has led to the “economic suffocation and collective punishment of the Cuban people.” The debate will be held in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez posted on X July 6 that Cuba has taken this case to the United Nations, to “defend our sovereign right to live without an energy siege, without a foreign imposed asphyxia, without coercion, without a threat of a blood bath and without a collective punishment.” He called on nations to “support this debate,” despite U.S. pressure to not take a stand. “Let us all defend the United Nations Charter, peace and sovereign equality among nations. Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is,” he wrote. Included in his post was a poster announcing the July 7 UNGA, reading: “The Energy Siege Kills. No Blockade Is Humanitarian.”
