Xi Presents Science and Technology Awards to Chinese and Foreign Scientists

At a meeting in Beijing on July 8, President Xi Jinping presented science awards to Chinese and foreign scientists and to many of the ground-breaking projects that have been accomplished in China. Top awards to Chinese scientists went to Chen Liquan, who did pioneering work in developing China’s lithium batteries; and Ben De, who developed new technologies in phased-array radar systems. There were also awards to dozens of projects that have benefited China in the last few years.

There were also foreign scientists who received the China Science and Technology Cooperation award. One of the recipients of this award was Russian chemist Artem Oganov, for his work in materials development and crystal structures. Oganov works in Moscow, and is a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church in Moscow. His father is Armenian and his mother is Jewish and he was a professor at Stony Brook University in the United States from 2008 to 2017. In 2018 he won the “1000 Talents” award from China and now he has been awarded the China Science and Technology Cooperation Award by President Xi.
