BRICS Ministers of Industry Gear Up for Economic Projects and Russia's Arctic Corridor

The Ministers of Industry of the BRICS countries met in Jaipur, India on August 6-7 under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” As reported by Free Press Journal, they made a formal commitment to move from dialogue to implementation of concrete industrial cooperation measures, under the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR).

India’s long-serving Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, referred to the rapidly evolving landscape in the world, and motivated that it was time for BRICS to cooperate on translating ideas into practical innovation. He cited the PartNIR as the principal mechanism for achieving this.

With a focus on establishing long-lasting institutional mechanisms for the BRICS’ industrial cooperation, the participants: finalized the Action Plan on innovation-led growth by Startups; finalized the Framework for Cooperation in the SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) Working Group; and adopted Terms of Reference and Action Plan for Working Group on Photovoltaic Industry.
