CIA Director John Ratcliffe briefed the White House on his recent quick trip to Moscow. He was seen there in the company of both Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and JCS chief,General Dan Caine. When asked about the Ratcliffe visit President Trump told journalist Glenn Beck that the visit was just “semi-routine.” Meanwhile the press is full of wild rumors and speculations about the whys and the wherefores of the visit.
Whatever the content of the discussion, it seems to have tamped down some of the hysteria, especially among some of the Baltic nations about an “imminent attack” by Russia on one of them, for which there hasn’t been the slightest indication. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said he suspected that the visit was meant to ease tensions in the region. “I only believe that this meeting was indeed intended to reduce geopolitical tension in our region,” Nausėda told reporters on August 27. “That is a positive.” Nauseda said that he expected to be briefed on the meeting by his regional partners.
