Iran Condemns Threatened US Sanctions as 'Economic Terrorism'

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the new economic sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran, describing the action as an instance of “economic terrorism” and “crimes against humanity.” In covering the Foreign Ministry statement, IRNA noted that Aug. 19, the day Trump issued his declaration of economic warfare on Iran, was also the anniversary of the notorious 1953 CIA-MI6 coup against Mohammad Mosaddegh.

The statement argued that “there is no doubt that US economic sanctions against Iran, which target the fundamental human rights of every Iranian citizen, constitute ‘economic terrorism’ and ‘crimes against humanity,’ and those who order and implement these sanctions deserve to be tried and punished for committing such heinous crimes.”
