“Americans know that no one buys their bombast; the United States is not in an economic position to further restrict its relations with other countries,” Iranian parliament speaker Mohamed Bagher Ghalibaf posted on X on Monday, at about the same time that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was announcing “Operation Economic Outcast.”
“Iran’s trading partners, both in the media and through messages sent to us, have made it clear that they don’t take these statements into account anywhere,” Ghalibaf added.
“They cannot cut off our financial lifelines,” Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Seyed Ali Madanizadeh reportedly said in another X post, adding that Tehran has been “planning for some time to counter the sanctions.”
