The Department of Defense will be hosting an “Industry Day” that runs from September 14 to September 16, 2026, in Chantilly, Virginia where its Strategic Capabilities Office will be soliciting contractors to help it build a “family” of hypersonic weapons designed to maneuver past enemy air defenses. The event is classified but a notice posted by the SCO on a government contracting portal “describes a family of next-generation, maneuverable, and precise hypersonic weapons capable of defeating advanced defensive architectures,” reported the Defence Blog. “Multiple programs will fall under the effort, each using different stand-off ranges, booster sizes, and payload packages to strike a variety of target types.”
The notice otherwise provides no informational details, no funding levels, targeted production qualities, technical requirements or how many weapons programs are expected to be included. Nor has any date been set for the solicitation of contracts. All of that information is expected to be provided to invited contractors behind closed doors only.
