The Ukrainian Air Force’s commander of logistics has been detained on suspicion of embezzlement. Today, Ukraine’s prosecutor general Ruslan Kravchenko stated, according to new findings, the commander purchased more than a dozen pieces of real estate, the price of which exceeded his lawful income by at least 20 million hryvnia (around $447,000), and that, between 2020 and 2025, the former commander acquired three private homes in Zhitomir Region in Western Ukraine; seven apartments in Kiev, Vinnitsia, Zhitomir, and Bukovel; several garages and other non-residential premises; as well as six plots of land. He also drove four expensive cars, including an Audi Q7 and Audi Q5. The statement also said that the suspect’s parents, son, and other relatives were registered as the owners of the properties, but investigators established that this was a cover-up.
RBC Ukraine has identified the individual as Col. Andrey Ukrainets, who held his post until February 2026 and now is detained. They recounted that Ukrainets had been caught red-handed five months ago, attempting to bribe the SBU leaders to stop the investigation of embezzlement. Endemic to present-day Ukraine, what corruption is gone after and what is ignored is part of the story. In this case, the embezzlement seems to be over funds for the construction of protective structures for planes at Ukraine’s military airfields. It is reported that large parts of the funds are missing, assumedly leaving more than a few planes unprotected. It is likely that more such corruption of this type will come to the surface as there will be an expanding market for casting blame.
