Organized by the metal workers union, a nationwide day of protest rallied 175,000 workers of the automobile sector for protests against job cuts and for a clause forcing car makers to produce car parts in Germany to secure jobs in the supplying sector. Rallies were held in 280 locations—the biggest at sites of leading car makers like Volkswagen, Mercedes, and Audi, with several thousand each. Mainstream media reporting was pushed back because of the news focus on the government crisis after the Sunday elections.

Protests included calls for the protection of engineering jobs, which are at stake in many companies: One of the bigger cases is the decision by auto maker Stellantis to cut 650 engineering jobs in the R&D section in Ruesselsheim.
